Children's Society Boxes

It’s that time of year when we open the C/Society Boxes, it doesn’t matter how little is in it (every little helps). You are invited for coffee on Wednesday 17th November @ 10 am bringing your box with you. Alternatively I am happy to either collect from Church or your home.

Look forward to seeing you.  If you want me to collect please ring 01732 450408 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Children's Society Help protect children

For children today, the internet is an important part of life. Their virtual world can feel as real as the physical world all around us.
Most young people use the internet every day. They talk to their friends, play games and learn about the world. For many parents it’s hard to keep their children off their phones or computers- which can be a concern, particularly as there is a darker side to the internet.

Young people can be vulnerable to online grooming, where they are targeted by adults online. This is often to exploit them sexually or criminally.

It’s important that everyone understands the risks young people can face online and what to look out for. Read our article to find out more.

When it comes to keeping young people safe, we can all be part of the solution.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Children's Society Pray for the light that a Christingle brings

December sees the start of Advent and here at The Children’s Society we couldn’t be more excited as it means it is Christingle time. Over 2,000 services lit up the country last year bringing hope to young people across the country.

We hope you will join us in us in prayer, in song and in your community this year. The light of Christingle is so poignant to us because we walk towards the young people who are in the dark, that society crosses the road to avoid. Christingle services have a huge impact on us all – they shine a light on parts of society that is broken and in turn help them regain their hope

We are very grateful to Peter Graystone who is a published author and pioneering Christian leader who has written our prayers for us this month. Peter is a lay training officer in the Discipleship and Ministry Team of Southwark Diocese.

Thank you for supporting our work in prayer, if you want to know where your local Christingle is please visit christingle.org/attend

Back to School

In September, children and young people will return to education after a summer break. Some will have had the opportunity to enjoy a summer holiday; others may have been stuck at home with little to do. As the new academic year starts, it’s a good time to pray for all children, young people and teaching staff.
Buying school uniform can be an extra financial pressure for families. Earlier this year, we were pleased to hear that after seven years of campaigning by The Children’s Society and others, the School Uniform Bill was passed in parliament. This means that schools must consider cost as a priority when setting uniform policies. This should make new uniforms more affordable for families, and is a great example of how campaigning can bring about real change in young people’s lives.

At the end of August, we published our 10th Good Childhood Report, which found that children’s well-being has continued to decline. We will continue to disseminate the findings of the report this month, with a number of supporter events planned.

This month’s prayers were written by Nick Harding, author and children’s ministry consultant.

Pray with us

Thank you, as ever, for supporting our work in prayer.
